    GREETINGS FELLOW DEMOCRATS!

    Please read this carefully!!!

I would add in any election worker! Not just judges.

To: Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama
CC: Democratic County Chairs and SDEC members
    From: Boyd Richie
    Re: Democratic Election Judges

It has come to my attention that several Democratic Election Judges have resigned their positions so that they may attend their precinct conventions to caucus for you. Many stated that they received calls from your campaigns stressing the need for them to attend the convention. I certainly appreciate that each of your campaigns is working hard to try to maximize participation by your supporters in the Precinct Conventions. However, I hope that you both understand that these actions by your campaigns may leave the Democratic Party without trained election judges on March 4th, thereby creating problems at the polls and potentially jeopardizing the election.

While it is true that Election Judges are required by law to deliver the ballots and supplies from the election immediately upon closing the polls (TX Elec. Code Sec. 66.053), it is possible for them to designate one of the clerks to be responsible for delivering the ballots (TX Elec. Code Sec. 66.052). The Election Judge could then attend, or even chair, the Precinct Convention.

If the Election Judge is not able to attend the Precinct Convention, but still wants to be considered for a delegate position, he or she may submit a letter to their Democratic Precinct Chair stating the Judge’s desire to become a delegate. If there is no Precinct Chair, or if the Judge serves as Precinct Chair, he or she may submit the letter to someone attending the Precinct Convention. The following information must be included in that letter: name, mailing and email addresses, phone numbers, voter certificate number (if known), presidential preference, ethnicity, age, and whether the Judge is gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, or disabled.

I ask you both to have your campaign workers take this matter into consideration and encourage our Democratic Election Judges to work the election. Without Election Judges, it is possible that some polling locations may have to be closed and precincts consolidated at the last minute, which would create confusion for the very voters and precinct convention attendees your campaigns are trying to motivate.

I ask the rest of you who are attending caucuses to be respectful of our election workers. They are modern day saints.

As of close of voting on Tuesday.

    2,710 Democrats have voted.
    2,248 of the other party.
    Who knew in Brazos County.

    Donkeys Rock!!!!!

IF YOU CAN HELP!!!! THIS IS A GOOD CAUSE!

    CALL SHERRY AT 690-3581.

The following has just been sent to The Eagle re: the lack of our Voters' Guide for this election. I've been getting flooded with calls asking for this & The Eagle agreed to print at this late date. It is also in response to comments/complaints re: other voting information distributed under similar titles that include biased information.

Please help Lisa Halperin, Lance Parr and myself with getting sponsors to help pay for the next election Voters' Guide ($700 or more). We've got just a short time to get this ready for early voting for the May election. ANY other volunteering is also greatly appreciated.

    -- Sherry Bame, LWV President

    *****************

This letter to the editor is in response to numerous inquiries about the Brazos Valley League of Women Voters "Voters' Guide." The LWV's Guide has NOT been published for the upcoming primary election. There are other sources of voting information that have been widely distributed with a similar title but these are not affiliated with the League of Women Voters. We suggest that voters look at the State's LWV web site at <http://www.lwvtexas.org> and the National LWV web site at <www.vote411.org>. The Secretary of State's office locally and state-wide provides a web site with the list of all candidates to be considered. We would like to thank The Eagle for its generous contribution of printing and distributing LWV's Voters' Guide for the past 18 years. For the May and November elections, the LWV is actively seeking sponsors to be able to continue this tradition of educating voters in a non-partisan balanced way.
