One of the presidential campaigns is telling people to be at their precinct convention sites at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Please realize, everyone from both campaigns, that you must wait outside the 100 foot marker until voting is finished. You cannot loiter. It is a criminal misdemeanor. You cannot be inside the polling place until the polls are closed. We don't need this kind of publicity in Brazos County. We don't want any of our election workers harassed ..... well just don't do it. Please. They make $7 an hour. So thank them on the way in. Smile!!!
There are brown envelopes in the Democratic Election judge's tan bag. It has the convention materials in it. If you are not the chair, please wait for that person to arrive. If there is no chair (it will have the chair's name on the outside)...you must sign for the packet and give the yellow form to the Democrat Election judge. The yellow form is taped to the brown envelope. Chairs do the same.
Please remember that it is a misdemeanor offense to loiter or promote any candidate within that 100 foot marker. Please be patient while we vote Democrats. The weather will be nice. Our caucuses may be large and may need to be moved outside. That is fine. We are flexible. We are proud Democrats.
We are not holding conventions for any candidate. We are holding Brazos County Democratic Caucuses. There are a limited number of delegates from each precinct. That number is based on the vote for Chris Bell in 2006. Just goes to show the importance of voting in non-presidential years. The figures have come from the state party. I have checked them and have not found errors. Some are rounded up and some are rounded down. Some precincts get only 1 delegate and 1 alternate.
If you are the precinct convention chair you must return your materials to us Thursday or Friday. This week. The office is closed on Wednesday. You must also mail a copy into the state party. An envelope is included. If you run out of sign in sheets use a tablet. There are pens in the brown envelope.
If you are having a convention where there are multiple precincts-Wellborn and Galilee Baptist are 2 good examples, you must caucus by precinct...not polling place. Wellborn has four precincts and Galilee has 5.
The sheriff has been put on alert because of some eager beavers from both campaigns. We are going to annoy people we need to vote with us in November. So please be courteous to all. Please be respectful of the organization that is on the ground...the hard fought for organization.
No matter who wins we don't want to elect John McCain in November so we must rally and support a Democrat.
