Texas to New Mexico Drive for Change

    From: Jaclyn Clenney <jclenney@nmforchange.com>
Subject: [TexasActionTeam] TX to NM DRIVE FOR CHANGE 9/6 - 9/7!
    To: "Texas Action Team" <TexasActionTeam@groups.barackobama.com>
Date: Monday, September 1, 2008, 1:13 PM Team Texas-

As you know, New Mexico is a critical battleground state-one that will likely come down to just a handful of votes per precinct and one that Barack Obama must win to become the next President of the United States. You also know that, with the help of the awesome Texas organization, we can push Barack Obama over the top and put an end to the destructive McCain-Bush agenda.

We need your help this weekend. Will you join us? <http://nm.barackobama.com/page/s/cometonm>

In 2000, Al Gore won New Mexico by just 366 votes. In 2004, John Kerry lost by under 6,000 and allegations of voter suppression and Republican dirty tricks were rampant. This year we need to win and win big. Texas has the power to make that happen.

The entire team in New Mexico knows from firsthand experience how incredible the Texas grassroots are. I worked alongside many of you during the March primary season, as did our Field Director, Brent Messenger, and State Director, Adrian Saenz. We know you will fight harder and longer than anybody to secure victory for Barack Obama in November and that you want your voices to be heard in this election. Texas is not a targeted race this year, but New Mexico is-and it's right next door. This is your chance to impact the election and change America.

We have paired up cities in Texas with cities in New Mexico so that you can encourage your friends, family members, and coworkers to come together and travel to your "sister city" for a weekend of action. Voter registration in New Mexico solidly favors the Democratic Party. However, many of these registered voters never make it to the polls. We need your help turning out 200,000 New Mexico Democrats who won't vote unless we ask.

Can you help with this crucial goal? Please click on one of the links below and sign up to be contacted by a staffer in New Mexico.

Sign up for the Texas Drive for Change! <http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/txdrive4change>

    Hope to see you soon!

Does Palin Have A Connection To The AIP?

    by georgia10
Mon Sep 01, 2008 at 06:36:58 AM PDT

"I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." - Joe Vogler, founder of the Alaskan Independence Party

What is Sarah Palin's relationship with the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP)?

As user Liz Arnett informs us, Sarah Palin may have some ties with this organization, and organization whose platform includes "complete independence and nationhood status for Alaska."

Perhaps the question of whether Palin, who's a 72-year-old heartbeat away from the presidency, may want to make America a 49-state nation is something that should have come up during the vetting process? Of course, given that the vetting process is just now getting underway, that the McCain camp knows about the possibility of this bizarre affiliation is doubtful.

WHAT IS THE ALASKAN INDEPENDENCE PARTY

The Alaskan Independence Party is, according to their website, "no longer a fringe party." Its views include:

  • A belief that "the vote for statehood was invalid because the people were not presented with the range of options available to them" and that "the federal government has since breached the contract for statehood on numerous occasions in over a dozen serious and substantial instances."
  • A belief that there should be a vote on Alaskan secession.
  • Remaining "steadfastly opposed to environmental regulations and actively promotes the private ownership and widespread development of Alaskan land."
  • A platform which includes:

[A]mending the Constitution of the State of Alaska so as to re-establish the rights of all Alaskan residents to entry upon all public lands within the state, and to acquire private property interest there in, under fair and reasonable conditions. Such property interest shall include surface and sub-surface patent.
[F]oster a constitutional amendment abolishing and prohibiting all property taxes.
[S]eek[ing] the complete repatriation of the public lands, held by the federal government, to the state and people of Alaska[.]

Brazos Valley Coalition Against the War Meeting, Sept. 11

    Hi all,

The Brazos Valley Coalition Against the War Steering Committee plus all interested Coalition members are invited to attend a planning meeting on Thursday, September 11, at 7 PM, at my house in College Station. We will meet to plan activities and actions for the fall, including:

    1) A protest, organized by our TAMU student chapter, scheduled for Wednesday, September 17.

    2) Making our presence felt at candidate appearances in the Brazos Valley this fall: we need to be organized to let candidates for federal offices (president, senate, congress) know that the Brazos Valley wants this war brought ot an end.

    3) Developing a counter-military-recruitment campaign at local high schools.

    4) Participation in the "Worth Remembering" event scheduled for November 10th--an evening to remember the sacrifices (and shameful neglect) of our brave veterans of this war.

The meeting is at my home, 1708 Amber Ridge Drive, in College Staion (Emerald Forest neighborhood). All are invited and encouraged to attend.

If you need a dxirections, or a ride, please contact me at mcwhirterdavid@yahoo.com.

    For the Coalition, David
