    No More Victims

    Hi all,

The Brazos Valley Coalition Against the War is considering the possibilities for participating in a project sponsored by the organization No More Victims. Kellie Wilcox first heard about this organization on Democracy Now about ten days ago; here is a link to the No More Victims website and a description of their Medical relief and Advocacy projects: http://nomorevictims.org/projectguides.php.

Kellie proposes that the Bryan College Station community, and specifically BVCAW, consider sponsoring an Iraqi child who would be brought to BCS for medical treatment. According to Kellie, the Democracy Now show highlighted the case of an Iraqi girl who was sponsored by a very conservative community in South Carolina. Apparently, the community support was amazing; and a lot of people were shocked to learn that children were being killed and injured in Iraq. Kellie suggests that sponsoring a child here could be a good way to raise awareness of the tragedies that are occurring in Iraq every day.

To sponsor a child we would need a core group of 5 people in charge of the following: medical, housing, logistics, fundraising, media. Kellie is willing to take on housing or logistics. Aare there others on this list willing to take on the rest?

If you want to get involved with this project, or have any questions, please contact Kellie Wilcox at sdmaracuja@hotmail.com. Kellie asks that you contact her within the next week or so so she can determine how to proceed.

This sounds like a wonderful project, but also a big undertaking; please take the time to write directly to Kellie if you think you can help out in any way, or if you have ideas for facilitating the project.

    Thanks,

    David, for the Coalition

    This is pretty unbelievable...

John Tanner, the top ranking voting rights official at the Justice Department, was caught on video claiming that photo ID requirements do not disproportionately disenfranchise minority voters because: "Our society is such that minorities don't become elderly the way white people do; they die first."

He went on to argue, irrationally, that these requirements actually benefit minorities because: "Anything that disproportionately impacts the elderly has the opposite impact on minorities."

Barack sent a letter to Acting Attorney General Peter D. Keisler last week demanding that John Tanner be removed from his position -- but the Justice Department needs to hear from you as well. The more they hear from people like you, the more pressure they will feel to do the right thing.

Send a message to the Attorney General's office and tell him to replace Tanner immediately:

Webb Seen as a Potential 2008 Running Mate

Just 10 months into his first term in elected office, James Webb found himself on the podium for one of the most coveted speaking slots in Democratic politics.

The freshman senator from Virginia delivered the keynote address to the New Hampshire Democratic Party at its annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner a week ago, a role that in recent years has been played by current and former White House candidates John Edwards and John F. Kerry. Two years ago the speech was delivered by Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.), who is viewed as a potential vice presidential pick next year.
